Sonia’s faith journey began as a child in Barbados, where she was raised in the Catholic Church. At twelve, she asked her mom for her own Bible so she could read it from beginning to end, sparking a lifelong love for God’s Word. By eighteen, she was discussing theology with anyone who would listen.
In 2001, after moving to Miami, Sonia was baptized at a non-denominational church in Fort Lauderdale, where she began teaching a women’s Bible study each week. After marrying Javan in 2008 and becoming a stepmom, Sonia moved to Titusville and became part of Park Avenue Baptist Church. There she led a women’s small group for seven years, writing and sharing devotionals—work that eventually led to publishing a a devotional book, "A Heart for God" in 2018 to encourage spiritual growth and support ministry.
Sonia’s greatest passion is helping others see the beauty of God’s love and mercy from Genesis to Revelation. She believes that in a broken world, people are either driven deeper into darkness or drawn to the Light of Christ. At The Gathering, she feels called to help point the community to that Light through teaching, fellowship, and discipleship.
